Surrogacy
Surrogacy is where another woman carries a baby for an infertile couple either by using her own eggs, straight surrogacy, or by having the couples' embryos transferred into her uterus, host surrogacy.
Surrogacy is usually needed because the infertile couple has a problem with carrying a pregnancy. The couple may need surrogacy because
- The uterus has been removed following hysterectomy
- The woman may have experienced several miscarriages
- The uterus could have an abnormality which makes pregnancy impossible
- Medical conditions may make pregnancy hazardous
Couples who contemplate surrogacy must be certain in their own minds that it is what they both want. We strongly recommend that you see our infertility counsellor to make certain that surrogacy is the right option for you.
